Hundreds of people showed up for a meeting at the Pittsburg firehouse last night to talk about the huge chunk of forest land being sold by International Paper Company. The Trust for Public Lands has said it will buy the land, then hold onto it as officials and private groups work to come up with money to buy and manage the land. Edith Tucker - Reporter for the Coos County Democrat - joined me by phone a bit earlier to fill us in on last night's meeting.

script iconTaxes
Return to index of stories...
Due to the implementation of the statewide
property tax last year, New Hampshire had the largest increase in the
nation in state taxes. State tax revenue was up 58 percent.
Even with the increase, the governor's office says the state
still has the fourth-lowest per capita state tax in the nation --
nearly 14 hundred dollars per resident.

script iconPower Discount
Return to index of stories...
Poor people served by Public Service of New Hampshire may qualify for electricity discounts of up to 25
percent.
Income-eligible customers may apply for discounts at the six
Community Action Program offices in the state.
The Legislature authorized the program as part of electric
utility deregulation, which for Public Service Company began in
May.
The program will be replaced in about one year by a statewide program, which also will be administered
through the C-A-P agencies.
